Victoria Quarter, Leeds

Cooperating with Wallace Whittle Edinburgh, NJS were tasked to adapt our lighting portfolio to accommodate a brilliant retail project in Leeds.

Steeped in history and stunningly beautiful the Victoria quarter in Leeds city centre presents the unique shopping experience. We visited the site with the design team in April 2023 to compare notes on any possible issues.

Their design brief focused on energy saving and improving the quality of light to enhance the outstanding architectural detail in the mall. The lighting was poor throughout with existing fluorescent, son, and tungsten lamps – all being replaced with LED technology. This change was not straight-forward as the malls are Grade II listed buildings, and it was critical not to disturb the architectural features in our luminaire choice.

Kemps Lighting Ltd are a long standing principle for NJS whos contribution was pivotal across the design process. Based a few miles from site was significant from a carbon footprint perspective. Kemps supplied samples and met with the contractor on several occasions. Approval was granted in September 2023 for lighting the County arcade. This allowed Kemps to progress with manufacturing which included bespoke fixtures, linear section and projectors. The entire package was delivered on a tight lead time as the installation had to be completed prior to the festive lighting arriving mid November 2023.
